I miss your smile, your laugh, your weird stare (especially when you’re clueless lol) with your little, tiny red, stressed eyes, your hug, your voice, your stories, that childish, evil smirk of yours, all the panglalait and crazy stuff we used to talk about & (simply) do, your scream, your hospitality & thoughtfulness, your advises, the way you tease, your playlist, the gayness of how you sing those 90’s & early year 2000-heart-breaking-bitter songs, the way you drive your ever-loving car with the window in the ceiling telling you nonstop how it looks like a scene from Jurassic Park, the way you get mad when something is unjust, your friendship, your love for your family & God… All the imperfections, I miss everything about you.

I miss you.

Sadly, I feel betrayed by your ignorance.

Filipino nurses settle language-bias case: The $975,000 secured in a dispute with Delano Regional Medical Center is believed to be the largest such settlement in the U.S. healthcare industry.

During a 2006 mandatory meeting for Filipino staffers, nurses were told they were forbidden from using their native language at “any time in the hospital,” said Wilma Lamug, a former 10-year employee.

She said the hospital’s former chief executive vowed that “he would install surveillance cameras in nursing stations. Whoever is caught, they were threatened with suspension or termination,” Lamug said. “Sometimes, we were speaking English, but due to our accent and diction, they thought we were speaking something else.”

Although the hospital, near Bakersfield, employed a mix of bilingual employees speaking Spanish, Hindi, Bengali and other languages, managers targeted only the Filipinos and encouraged supervisors and other staffers to “act as vigilantes.”

After lunch, Nanay (my grandmother) was browsing through her scrapbook (they didn’t have these photo albums yet in 1950’s) and showed me those hand-written love letters Tatay (my grandfather) wrote for her. <3

I realized that nobody’s doing that anymore. :( Don’t you know that it is more romantic & touching when you exchange hand-written letters? I know nakakatamad especially in our generation today but.. ugh. I love receiving letters, especially when it came from our friends/loveones..

and geez… Dad and his sibs (uncle & aunts) are so cute when they’re still little! Not to mention, Tatay is good-looking. :P We miss you Tay. <3

According to data from the Department of Health, the number of new cases of HIV being reported in the Philippines is steadily on the rise. While the absolute number of cases in the Philippines is relatively small, HIV is rising at an alarming rate in the country.

Persons who are infected with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) may eventually develop AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome), a life threatening disease characterized by a weakened immune system.

They agreed that the HIV has spread in the Philippines largely because of the lack of public education about the virus. Because sex is a taboo topic in Filipino culture, experts speculate that the actual number of HIV cases in the Philippines may actually be higher than reported because people are too ashamed or afraid to come forward about having the infection.
